So, I've downloaded your application, but what is AOSkills2 and how do I use it?
AOSkills2 is a character emulator, it enables you to perform "what if" scenarios with your character. In order to use it, the first thing you'll want to do is to get your character from the game into AOSkills2. There are a number of ways to do this, but I'll describe the simplest here (screenshots are included at the bottom of the page).
Start by downloading Covenant's Character Profiler from his home page (see links) and set it up to store it's output in AOSkill's profiles folder. Now, follow the instructions in Covenant's program to create your current character profile (will consist of several files in a sub-folder of profiles usually named after your character). It is suggested you run AO in window mode when doing all this.
Next, run AOSkills2 and select Open Profile from the File menu. This will initially be pointing at the profiles folder, so simply double-click into the correct sub-folder for your character and then on the "characterprofile.xml" file. You will then be asked if you want to preserve your existing bonuses, as this is the first time, you can answer no. We now have your base values loaded into the program with one exception, Nano Resist (as character profiler does not output the correct value) so we need to enter that manually, but we need to get all the other modifiers in first.
You can use the Manage Buffs, Manage Org Benefits and the Perks tab to enter buff, perk and tower/city information. That just leaves equipment and implants/symbiants/spirits. In the profile folder for your character is an HTML file. Double-click that to open it in your favourite browser and scroll to the bottom where a link to Auno's Database Site is provided ("Click here to see your character profile, courtesy of auno.org.") that will show all your equipment and implants/symbiants/spirits. Click on this.
Now the currently fidly bit, you need to duplicate this window/tab as in one we need to edit out all the implants, and in the other we need to edit out all the other equipment leaving just the implants. This will give us one window showing just the bonuses from equipment (armour, weapons, utils, huds and ncu) and another just the bonuses from implants/symbiants/spirits.
Starting with the implants window/tab, highlight all the modifiers listed and select copy from the context menu. Now go back to AOSkills2 and select Add/Remove Implant Modifiers from the Implants menu. This opens a new window. Click in the large text box and select paste from the contect menu, press the Add button, then press the Close button.
Repeat the above for the modifiers in the other equipment window/tab, but use the Add/Remove Equipment Modifiers from the Equipment menu.
Now the only thing missing is that Nano Resist value. Back in-game, press U to open your skills window and then click on the Speed button and shift-click on Nano Resist. Make a note of what it says for Base Value and type that number into the input control in the IP column for Nano Resist. Finally, check that the numbers in the first column for each ability and skill match the numbers in-game (they should be very close, one possible source of error is the org city/tower benefits which don't seem to always work, and even when they do may be out by 1. If I can figure out exactly what the game is doing wrong I'll adjust the code to mirror it (the listed benefit will match AOSkills2 value, but the actual modifier may be 1 too low).
Ok, that was a bit of work, but you now have a base copy of your character (remember to save it!) to work with. If you level up in-game, simply re-run the character profiler, open your character in AOSkills2 and then open the new profile, but answer Yes when asked if you want to keep the existing bonuses. And if you change equipment, you can go through the steps given for implants and equipment above, but before selecting the Add/Remove... option, select the Clear option from the relevant menu or you'll just add the new modifiers onto the old ones.
I'm hoping that the next version of character profiler will provide seperate links for equipment and implants and I also have implantHelper, a new implant layout designer which has the option to export layouts in a format AOSkills2 can read.
